Swansea City vs
Liverpool Match Report
A freak Jordan Henderson goal gives Liverpool the points as
they close the gap on Manchester United in fourth.
The race for the top four is extremely tight and anything
could happen as we enter the finale of the season.
Liverpool had the first early sight of goal when Raheem
Sterling passed to Daniel Sturridge for a shot about 20 yards out. It went well
wide however.
Adam Lallana had an attempt when Sturridge chested the ball
down to him in a similar position but his shot was straight into the arms of
Swansea keeper Fabianski.
Swansea were far better in the first half however and nearly
made it count after Gomis had a shot on goal after some neat interplay with
Wayne Routledge. His low shot however was saved by Mingolet.
Sigurdson also went close after receiving the ball from the
impressive Neil Taylor. His shot on the turn went over the bar however. The
Icelandic international had another attempt soon after when he curled a shot
towards the top corner. Mingolet made an acrobatic save however.
In the second half Coutinho had a good chance when Sturridge
and Sterling combined and the ball was squared to the Brazilian in the box. His
near post shot however was saved.
Soon after Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard was introduced
and not long after the Reds took the lead. Martin Skrtel hoofed a ball forward
that was hooked on by Sturridge towards Jordan Henderson. Amat made a challenge
but the ball hit the Liverpool midfielder and looped over the keeper in the net
for a fortunate goal.
Philippe Coutinho had one of his signature curling shots but
it went just wide. Sturridge also broke free in the final minutes and made a
clever attempt at goal but he unfortunately hit the post. However Liverpool
closed the game out well for the victory.
Now Liverpool are only two points off fourth place and only four
points off second place Manchester City. Their next game is an incredibly
important one against Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.
